Such an individual came in the form of the Nephalem. Despite Kanai's death, his spirit remained in the mortal realm due to the destruction of Mount Arreat and the Worldstone. However, this did not come to pass, for in the Siege of Sescheron, Kanai led his people in the defense of the city against Baal and his army in a maneuver that turned out to be suicidal the city was lost, and Kanai with it. Prior to his death, he was considered to sit upon the Immortal Throne, an honor that had only ever been bestowed upon two others, including Bul-Kathos himself. Kanai at some point claimed the axe of the demon L'Anzuul, which was buried with him. Kanai was one such guardian, and would be the last to bear the artifact. The Horadrim had entrusted an artifact of great power to the Barbarians, and they kept it safe. Season 20, the Season of Forbidden Archives (aka Kanai’s Cube-o-Rama) is coming soon to a Diablo 3 near you. The ancient king’s actual tomb will be in another part of the map, so explore the whole Elder Sanctum until you find a different pillared tomb with the Immortal Throne and a floating, glowing gold cube waiting for you.Kanai was a member of a group of guardians whose history stretched back to the Dark Exile. However, don’t get confused: if you find a throne room with a line-up of spectral barbarians and the corpse of the dead king, that’s not where the cube is. From there, find and enter the Elder Sanctum, which holds the lost tomb of the ancient king. After you get the mission from him, explore the randomized map of The Ruins of Sescheron. ![]() If you don’t have the mission from him, Kanai’s Cube will be guarded by an immovable shield. Though you can go there at any point in Adventure Mode, make sure to talk to the ghost of Zoltun Kulle first. It’s now overrun with demons after Baal destroyed their home to corrupt the Worldstone in Diablo II. There, you can visit Sescheron and the Barbarians. However, it’s only there in Adventure Mode, not the main campaign. You can reach Mount Arreat during Act III of the game. ![]()
